GIANTX enters LEC playoffs, keeping the World Championship dream alive
The esports club GIANTX has achieved its goal and will play in the playoffs of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), the most prestigious video game competition in Europe. This event, held in Berlin, brings together the top esports organizations from across the continent.
The team, based in Malaga and London, secured its spot in the summer season playoffs and will face Fnatic in the first round, following the draw held after the tie-breakers of the regular season’s final day. GIANTX confirmed its qualification by defeating Rogue and, already qualified, competed against Karmine Corp, against whom they lost.
GIANTX has competed in the LEC playoffs in winter and spring, and will do so again in the summer edition. The challenge for the team, led by Kaas and Nico, is now to advance and secure a top-three finish in this third campaign of the year. Achieving this would allow them to compete in the season finals, the event that decides the final slots for the Worlds, the League of Legends World Championship, which is GIANTX’s ultimate dream.
Regarding the matches of the last weekend, the giants defeated Rogue after a tough start where Th3Antonio fell behind in the laning phase, giving the early advantage to the opponent. However, Th3Antonio was decisive with his initiations on Gragas, key to GIANTX winning team fights and sealing the victory. This win, along with other results on Saturday, ensured GIANTX’s spot in the playoffs. They played against KCorp knowing they were already through, and opted for an aggressive composition, but it did not work out.
Fnatic, as in the previous season, will be the first opponent in the playoffs. This match is scheduled for the weekend of July 12, although the exact date has not yet been decided. If they win, GIANTX will face the winner of the SK Gaming-Team Heretics matchup. If they lose, they will have another chance against the loser of that same matchup. The rest of the bracket includes Team BDS vs. MAD Lions and KOI vs. G2. Team Vitality and Rogue were eliminated after losing their tiebreaker matches against KOI.
